Civic Centre Front Office Closure - Victoria Day- May 20

 The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre  wishes to advise that the Front Counter will be closed Monday, May 20, 2013 due to the Victoria Day holiday.

Please note that the YMCA will be open May 20 from 9:00-5:00 p.m.

The 18th annual Granville Green Concert Series announces a great line up of performers, July 8 to August 12, in Port Hawkesbury.

(Port Hawkesbury, NS) – Celebrating its 18th year, the Granville Green Concert Series will feature six FREE outdoor concerts on Sundays from July 8 to August 12 on Granville Street in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia.

Presented by NuStar, the Granville Green Concert Series line up for this summer is as follows:

Sunday, July 8: Rich Aucoin, special guests Mardeen

Sunday, July 15: Slow Coaster, special guest Molly Thomason

Sunday, July 22: Soho Ghetto and Andy Brown

Sunday, July 29: Jimmy Rankin, special guest Carleton Stone

Sunday, August 5: Rawlins Cross, special guest Outside Track

Sunday, August 12: Ashley MacIsaac, special guest Aryn Benoit

Each concert begins at 7 p.m. and concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for comfort.

“For the 18th consecutive year, the Town is proud to be working with the local business community to bring in some of Canada’s top musical talent,” said Billy Joe MacLean, Mayor of the Town of Port Hawkesbury.  “This partnership provides a rich cultural experience for our residents of all ages, summer after summer.”

“NuStar is proud to be a member of the Port Hawkesbury community, and our sponsorship of the Granville Green Concert Series is one of the ways that we give back to the community,” said Blaise MacDonnell, General Manager of NuStar Terminal Canada Partnership.  “It is an outstanding event that we have supported for 15 years, and we are pleased with the way it has grown as a fun weekly summer event for local families, and as an attraction for visitors to the area.”

The Granville Green Concert Series is produced by the Port Hawkesbury Parks Recreation and Tourism Department.

The students of the Strait Area Education  Recreation Centre will be displaying their artwork at the J. Franklin Wright Gallery commencing May 9, 2013. The exhibit is the seventh in the showcase for the area’s youth, and we are delighted to share their works with you. You are cordially invited to attend the opening and meet the Artists on Thursday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

 Active Transportation

We are firm believers that the weather is going to be getting warmer and we will be getting out of doors more to enjoy active transportation opportunities.  

With this in mind, the next Active Transportation meeting is planned for Wednesday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m. - Board Room, Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

From Sydney, Australia to Sydney, Nova Scotia, multiple-award winner David Myles is bringing audiences to their feet with his spirited songs, flawless musicianship, and his warm and engaging stage show.

David’s surprising and intricate songwriting has garnered him wins in the International Songwriting Contest, song placements in film and television, and a place on CBC’s Great Canadian Songquest.

Increasingly in demand in theatres and at festivals, David’s unabashed joy at being on stage is infectious. His enthusiasm, along with his tendency to entertain audiences with his humourous anecdotes, wins him fans instantly.
