The People's Art Exibition
Nov 22 2012 - Dec 22 2012
Amateur artists in the area should get out their easels and dust off their sculptures or other works of art. There will soon be an opportunity for them to display their artistry at an event sponsored by the J. Franklin Wright Gallery Committee.
The People’s Art Exhibition will open on Nov.22, 2012 at the Gallery in the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre. Calls are going out to artists 18 years of age and over to submit up to two works of art in any medium that is safe to exhibit. E.g. painting, drawing, fibre, photography, digital media, sculpture.
Those wanting to participate must complete an application form that will be available after June 15 at the Civic Centre Box Office or online. Only submissions accompanied by an application will be accepted. Guidelines for the submissions will be attached to the application forms.
The Gallery Committee is looking forward eagerly to lots of participants and are encouraging amateur artists as well as budding artists to start working now to produce their pieces for the November showing. It should be lots of fun.
The students of the Strait Area Education Recreation Centre will be displaying their artwork at the J. Franklin Wright Gallery commencing May 9, 2013. The exhibit is the seventh in the showcase for the area’s youth, and we are delighted to share their works with you. You are cordially invited to attend the opening and meet the Artists on Thursday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
A blood donor clinic will be held on June 19 & 20th in the Bear Head Rm, at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre. To make a donation or for more information, please call 1-888-2DONATE or go to: www.blood.ca
Farmers’ markets come in many shapes and sizes, and the Community Market starting in Port Hawkesbury is no exception. Starting Thursday, May 30th, and continuing bi-weekly into October, the market will be held at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre from 12pm-4pm.
While this is early in the growing season, there will be a variety of products ranging from annuals, baked goods, manure, eggs, and workby craft producers. For those starting in the market business, two incubator tables will be available for those who want to work together to provide produce for the community.
It is the goal of the Port Hawkesbury Community Market to give consumers in the Strait Area an opportunity to interact directly with those who take an active role in producing the items they sell.
We aim to market products grown, made, or finished locally. Examples of products that we plan to market include: locally grown vegetables, locally raised chicken, locally caught lobster, locally made breads, cheeses, crafts, etc. The Market emphasizes farm products and food but welcomes arts and crafts of the local economy.
